The Swing
I stand in the empty playground
and stare at the setting sun
i sit on the metal swing
and pump my feet
back and forth
back and forth
i lean back
letting my hair fall
i look at the sunset:
the pinks and reds
even green hues
decorate the blue canvas
the sun glares out once more
and I still swing
back and forth
back and forth
everyone is gone now
but that doesn’t matter
I’m here
I’m breathing
the worlds alive
for a moment I’m flying
at the top of the sky
i sing one last solo
tell the night takes it’s ride
but I’m all alone
and yet that doesn’t matter
so i jump
right there
in that very moment
where everything seems perfect
I soar
I fly
but soon gravity captures me
ensnaring me back to the ground
and I catch myself
like I always do
i leave
not quickly
nor slowly
the swing still sways
back and forth
back and forth
and then it’s alone
but that doesn’t matter
because the sun will rise
when morning comes.
