Just One Person
Sometimes, all I need is someone.
A person who will listen.
Just one person who can pretend they care well enough to fool me.
I just need someone who wants to listen to me talk.
Not a person who wants to solve my problems.
Not a person who wants to tell me what to do.
Not even a person who wants to make me feel better.
But a person who wants to listen to me and hear…no, feel what I’m feeling.
They don’t have to understand what I’m saying,
All I need is someone who can bear to hear what I say.
I don’t need empathy.
I don’t need pity.
And no, I don’t need help.
I just need someone who, by listening to me, fills me up.
And without saying a word, tells me everything will be okay.
Just one person who will be with me and listen to me at the same time.
Someone who, even if they don’t know what I’m saying, will not give up on me.
Ever.
Someone strong enough to carry my thoughts on when I’m not strong enough to carry them on myself.
Sometimes, all I need is someone like you.
