I am selling out to society
I am selling myself to the higher state, and the drunken mind
I am creating my anything but sober self

I am selling myself to strangers
On the streets, on the TV, and in church
I am living my life and making my morals and values based on what strangers preach to me

I am selling my body
To the enemy I call a mirror and the diet I call hunger
I am making my image of beauty according to popularity in the media

I am selling out to escapism
I am preventing any kind of pain, embarrassment, or fright
I am using technology to avoid all of those things
I am scared of communication; “please leave the message after the beep”

I am selling out to love
Making it meaningless
Making it have zero regard to commitment
To any truth, I am basing it all on lies

I am selling out to money
Materialistic things are the only happiness I want
I am consuming my life by something as modest as paper

I am selling out to simplicity
I am hearing that “more” will always fill my void
The greater the complications the more sophisticated I will appear

I have sold out to my self respect, my mortality, and my self esteem
I have let society create my right and my wrong
I have sold out to my thoughts, dreams, and ambitions, just to satisfy the strangers around me
I have covered up by abusing things that are mindless

I am sold to this hierarchy we call society
