I am fighting for my country, you are not alone,
I wonder who will win this war, if I'll ever make it home,
I hear screams and cries, all hope is soon to be lost,
I see explosions and gunshots, men dead in every corner,
I am manning the cannons, your command is my order,
I pretend to be brave, to not show my pain,
I feel the loneliness, I think I may be going insane,
I touch the cold metal of the barrel as I shoot to survive,
I worry about the next day, but it is a goal I long to strive,
I cry yearning to see my family once again,
I am Colonel Sam and I will live, my life is soon to begin,
I understand the casualty rate, but I am willing to take the risk,
I say to myself that I will make it home, but I need to do my part and assist,
I dream about my family, home and safe,
I try my hardest to survive in this wretched place,
I hope one day everyone will be free,
I am a American solider, fighting, so let us be!
