My Wall
There is a wall,
Blocking many people from me.
I choose to stay hidden behind it,
Afraid of getting hurt.
There are people who climb that wall,
Trying to reach me,
Those are the people closest to me.
For some I let my wall down,
For others its as high as can be.
I am grateful for those who stay,
But saddened to see the others leave.
Every time one leaves the wall gets taller,
Just adding another layer of red brick.
Making the trip to my heart harder,
Till no one can see over the wall anymore.
Love who you've got,
No matter how long.
For one day the wall could get higher,
With cracks in the base.
Making your structure less and less stable.
