Doubt
‘Twas not for the lack of want,
Nor for the lack of abilities,
but pure and simple cowardice
and fear that prevented me.
Staring into bright headlights,
frozen as the stony statues,
unmoved as the speeding vehicle
halts to a screeching stop.
‘Tis that incapability which
Has possessed the most capable,
and in turn as hurt more
in void of action and voice.
To run after you I desired,
All instincts yelled “go”,
Yet the inner debate wasted
time as you walked away.
Branded for coldness,
awash with salty water,
“I’m sorry” can’t erase that
doubt now planted.
