Lies
Beautiful, sickening lies.
They surround us,
choking our very
existence.
A wide grin of deceit
poors into the sky,
chuckling with
triumph.
The American dream
soars up, filling
everyone with hope.
Happiness swells,
suffocates.
Then the truth appears.
The smile fades away,
and a miserable,
wallowing grimace
takes its rightful place.
Up in the sky with the
airplanes and birds,
shining onto the
naïve people below.
We look up.
The truth is smirking
at us, “I told you so.”
