It’s two o’clock and my sister is drunk,
Motel nights congest the bill of the month.
No one is sleeping, everyone is up,
Mommy is screaming while sister is fainting.
Open up those shades smeared with black,
Let death leave this house at once.
Shaken to the core, bullet to the brain,
Novocain that just doesn’t seem to help.
Daddy, Daddy, where have you gone?
It’s already a new day, you never came home!
Minute by minute we all held our breaths,
The very next day we were all dead on the rug,
The paper boy found us with faces of blue,
He ran to his house and hugged his mom tight.
I have yet to see you since that night,
You locked us all in this house of hell.
And Sister, oh sister, won’t stop kissing her bottle,
Whatever happened to the family on the portrait?
You broke the glass, stole the photograph.
But you forgot me! You forgot me!
I found your Swiss army knife under the bed,
Pool of red, sea of red enter stage left.
Pour away your lovely fluids, swallow me whole,
You’ll remember me now Daddy, yes you will.
White, white, everything is white,
Pale, old women stare at me in fright.
In their pupils I see what they think of me,
Crazy, insane, a girl with no future.
The hospital tubes hug my body tightly,
I am your prisoner once again.
Mommy is crying, no wait, she’s still screaming,
And now sister is smoking away the baby under her shirt.
I grab the tubes and wrap them around my neck,
Why won’t this nightmare just end?
Then Daddy he comes, he came back for me!
Foolish thoughts, another preschool lie,
All he wants is his money back for that rock.
And as they battle it out in the corner
I pull the ends of the tubes and finally breathe out.
