sweet summer nights
there is something so beautiful
in being awake long after everyone is asleep
and listening to the rain
humming at the window
and the leaves whistling
and the moon moans in baritone,
long and low,
and crickets cheer and the stars,
the stars sing
in sweet little voices.
three o’ clock in the morning
is best spent
in a room overflowing with laughter
and whispered words
and beyond that
the symphony of summer
