and i'll breathe you in as you bite my lip
sweet lavender and deep musk
and underneath, you smelled like

ripped jeans and roasted marshmallows,
five o'clock shadow and lake county soil

with my love caked across your eyelids,
you smiled at me and i couldn't help but laugh,
i guess it was just the way your lips parted

like the sun peeking from behind stormy clouds

and the storm clouds are coming, but i don't mind
we'll welcome the torrent with outstretched arms
bring the thunder and smuggle the lightning

and have fire and joyful tears spill from the sky
to make sad, suffering skeletons of all the trees

but not us, cause our bones are stronger

and did you know i love to watch your bones
the way they slide and crackle against one another...
but even more, i love to watch your skin
i love to watch my hands

trace rivers out from the delta of your spine

and your spine is mine, as mine is yours
one day when we're angels, i'll keep yours in a special box

marked "pieces of you"

along with your graceful grey eyes

and each of your freckles, all twenty-eight of them

is it getting dark in here?

or is it just my heavy lids nudging me to sleep
i'll sleep when we're dead, love

but for now i feel too strong for sleep

we'll spend all night gazing at the skyline
just to say we did, cause that's what they do in all the songs

cause one day we'll be in all the songs

cause one day we'll write all the songs...
