My Place
They say the past never leaves us
But then why does no one believe us
When we say that the gift which was known as genius
Till is held in me and can push away all that deceives us,
All I know is my mind it just pleads us to give up, Jesus,
I was only supposed to get enough to survive,
Something to remember what resides
On the inside of the shell and which I hide behind,
And even though I know my heart raced
The whole thing has been encased
So that no matter how fast it paced
My mind wouldn’t get to see how bitter this tastes
But one fact I can’t change is how many of these words are laced
With lies that I have yet to face
And though you might think I might hold this with shame and disgrace
But I put them up and hold a straight face and flow them out with such style and grace
Nobody has been able to read my bluff and I feel like I’ve finally found my place
As my mind paces and my pulse jumps in the race
As I throw everything else to waste, there’s no taste that makes up for this emptiness in which I’ve been placed.
