Commence
Take all of it, away from me,
Then trample the remainder too.
To try my soul is your delight
And to tax is your vocation.
Tenacious in the ring I fight,
My viewers boo to see me rise,
I do not have a way to tear
The talons from plowing my skin.
Existence met me with a dare,
Inception found me surrounded,
Bare hands betray—I have no friends
That deign to search the bleeding veil.
Tortured per man’s caprices
I rain and fall; my bones will fail;
Trying to scream, I wish to die,
But this body was never mine.
