Keeping Silent
When I speak no one listens.
When I don’t all anyone can hear is my silence.
If people like me better silent…
Then maybe they’d like me best gone.
Slowly I forget my words.
Not like any one could care.
If I go long enough in silence to speak is painful.
Each word a knife in my throat.
I become an animal.
A mute.
Staring and smiling.
Gesturing with nods and shakes of my head.
“Is something wrong” I’m asked I shake my head no.
Not like anyone could care.
I become a pet.
A dog.
You can talk to never responding.
Never talking.
Just a dog.
