The Black Night
A powerful boom echoes through the air,
Making a person’s heart jump quickly,
An intense beating hard to surpass.
The sight, so depressing, brings queasiness to the stomach.
The radiating red blaze in the background burns like death,
Clouds of smoke glazing the sky.
Blue ocean water, pure and innocent,
Now enclosed in murky oil, blacker than the night.
Gallons and gallons are leaking by the loads.
A horrifying stench of salty oil pollutes the air,
As it slowly seeps in like a shadow
Coming unexpectedly out of an alley.
A taste of disgust lingers in those with sunken hearts
While they gaze upon the massive destruction of the Gulf of Mexico.
Animals floating up to the shore,
Their deaths prove the power of calamity.
Sea turtles, brown pelicans, dolphins,
Plead for their lives in front of the murderer.
But the oil is cold-hearted, leaving no sympathy in its trace.
A powerful boom echoes through the air,
Making a person’s heart jump quickly,
But do not be shaken.
It may take many years to come
Before the oil eventually fades away.
However, true happiness cannot be experienced without disaster.
Even in the blackest of the night, the stars still cease to shine.
