Down Under
She places her heart in her back pocket
day after day.
Where it has protection,
yet can easily be stolen just the same;
with which comes heartbreak.
Then in almost an instant
it drops;
into a tiny corner
in the bottom of her shoe
hiding from pain.
Out of the sight of forgiveness.
Too low to find true, undying love,
with no trace
as if it isn't even there.
Too much it has had to endure
unlike those other hearts;
arms wide open.
But she keeps her heart to herself.
With no one to save her from the deep, dark hole that lies deep within.
To help her back up.
To save her lifeless soul.
