You came to me fragile and broken,
sobbing over my cherry red toenails.
I carried your heart over the potholes,
and the rough patches they call "life".
Odd how my heart of antique lace,
held your mind of carefully constructed cobwebs.
so as not to bring the house of cards tumbling down,
I built our home by the sea.
Rekindle the sunset flames.
Repaint the lime Volkswagen.
Rebuild this thing we call "us".
Oh, those sweet tears
soaking through my checkered sweater.
Brushing your bangs over my eyelids,
and humming Mozart through your earlobe.
Shattering the ice,
by rocking you to sleep at midnight in the library.
Whispering honey to soothe the burns and shattered remains.
As the teardrops raining,
from under your jet-black lashes,
drew rivers from my own.
