Fragments
The heater clanks and hums,
the only pleasant sounds
in this whole house.
Televised words,
fragmented sentences,
are muffled as they move through the halls.
The broken player
turns the CD round,
scratching and moving in circles.
Rain cascades down,
beating its rythmic song into
the pavement outside.
My mattress springs, under my weight,
groan in protest,
echoing your thoughts of my prescence.
I listen to the
gun of your engine and the crunch of gravel
as you steer the car away from me.
Sorrow
resonates
through the halls.
