Ode to Mother
Soft plush kisses, warm embraces,
Lullabies and goodnight stories,
Laughter, tears and smiling faces,
Funny games, make-believe fairies.
My calming cure for stormy nights,
My bandage for small scrapes and cuts,
My guiding light for silly frights,
My number one, who knows what’s what.
You brought me to my wild parties,
You mended many broken hearts,
You helped with schoolwork and duties,
I hoped we’d never be apart.
Maternal love fulfilled my needs,
Anger never filled your spirit,
You helped me strive and then succeed,
A perfect match, a perfect fit.
As time conquers our youthful souls,
We separate and drift away,
Your pride drives me to reach my goals,
I fabricate my own roadway.
Our journey simply has begun,
Your lessons shall be put to use,
You’ll always be my number one,
The end of time is no excuse.
