Don’t be a Robot
You always told me to be myself,
Unlike the other girls.
They wanted to be perfect.
And to be perfect
They had to pretend,
Pretend to be someone,
Someone they are not.
Why can’t we all just be perfect the way we are?
Everyone looks the same,
Everyone shares one personality
No one is different.
And you would always tell me it is good to be myself,
Nothing but myself.
But now that you are not here to tell me that,
I have fallen into the trap.
The one thing I did not want to do
I have now done.
I am now nothing but a robot.
A robot that looks like every other robot.
My life now means nothing.
But when my life is about to be over,
I think about what you would say
To me if you were here,
You need to be yourself.
And those five simple words
Have changed my life.
I have crawled out of the trap.
Since you have said those five simple words to me day after day
I am now not afraid
To be myself.
