The Canvas
You come out into the world
Destined to be unique:
To try out new things, to
Paint on a blank canvas.
You want to create things--
Make your dreams come true.
But what happens if
That same voice that told you
You could do anything,
Years later told you
The canvas was already painted on
Before you got here?
What happens then?
People tell you:
“Don’t paint that!
You should paint this.”
And they try to paint over
Your precious work of art.
But they don’t realize that
Each person has their own painting;
Their own way of happiness.
No matter what they say,
They cannot paint your story.
