Freak
Freak, weirdo, r*****.
She had heard them before,
she heard those cruel words now,
whispered just loud enough for her to hear.
She kept her eyes forward as she walked down
the longest hallway in the world.
“Look at that freak, no not there... yes, her,”
Don’t turn, Don’t look. Ignore them. Step...step...step.
More whispers, more insults,
Don’t turn, Don’t look. Ignore them. Step...step...step.
Then, suddenly “Guys shut up!”
She stopped and looked up for her defender,
a smile of thanks on her lips.
His lips formed,
not in what she had imagined, a smile.
His lips formed in a smirk.
