Maple Leaf
I hold a maple leaf
And let it go
As it flutters to the ground
Rain starts to fall
This is not me
Sky shimmers against
The backdrop of my emptiness
I wish I could take the horizon
And slice the sharp blade across my wrist
I fall to the ground
This is not me
The sun is falling
I want to reach out to it
To scream
And tell it that
I want to rise, shining brightly every day
Beautiful and simple
And yet
This is not me
So what am I?
Unhappy?
Lonely?
In a way, aren’t we all?
Rain falls
This is not me
