When You Loved Me
Last night my life changed
Don’t ask me how it happened, or how I made it through the night
All I know is that my life changed
In the dead of night, I woke up from a nightmare
I searched through the shadows, but you were never there
The crunch of bottles beneath my feet, as I rise to find you
Maybe to save myself, from the dark
I’m only seven, but I know where you will be
Next door with the man, who’s gone in the morning
You left me alone, to sit and sob
To wonder if tomorrow, I’ll still be alive
But that night my life changed
When he came out from your room
He held a knife right to your throat
And left me alone to watch you die
Why did you leave me, mommy?
To watch the spiders spin webs in my mind
That cloud out the memories
Of when you used to love me
I see the flashing lights, each time I close my eyes
Of the car that took your body, and rushed you far away
That woke me from my nightmare
Only to wish, my eyes were still closed
Years pass by in a curious blur
Like the sand across the beach
My memories are washed away
Of when you used to love me
But in the dead of night, I wake up from a nightmare
I search through the shadows, but he is never there
The crunch of bottles beneath my feet, as I rise to find him
Maybe to save myself, from the dark
I’m seventeen, and know where he will be
Next door with the woman, he wishes could be me
He leaves me alone, to sit and sob
To wonder if tomorrow, I’ll still be alive
That’s when I left him, mommy
To watch the spiders spin webs in his mind
That cloud out the memories
Of when I used to love him
Last night my life changed
Don’t ask me how it happened
But somehow, I made it through the night
