Favorite Quote:
“If you had as much gunpowder as you did brains, you wouldn’t have enough to blow your nose.”

My son, you’re brilliant,

Just like a diamond.

So let me make you into something beautiful:

A useful and graceful canary.

My daughter, you’re brilliant,

Like topaz on fire.

So let me make you into something beautiful:

A glorious yet boisterous canary.

I feel like a train wreck (because you know I am),

And I rule over my domain (which is your mind, your mind).

I slash your memories with my claws [because you know you’ll believe me

When I say they never happened (because you always believe me)].

It doesn’t matter what the priests say;

They can’t meddle in my affairs with my

Brilliant diamonds and my

Beautiful canaries.

You like being trapped in the cage I give you,

Because you’re used to captivity and like pats on your gemstone head.

I keep you alive,

And you give me your body.

I’ll send you, my brilliant diamond canary,

Into the coal mine.

Kiss me—

Hold me—

Be my puppet,

My pet!

You’re nothing more (and nothing less)!

I love you,

Because you’re brilliant,

Like a diamond.

I don’t care if I’m in a jail cell,

I don’t care if I’m murdered for the things I’ve done.

Instead of ruling over your body,

I now rule over your mind.

Your mind is so, so brilliant,

Just like a diamond.

You are my diamond canary.

The author's comments:

This piece was inspired by my own personal stories I write in free time. Overall, I think it reflects them beautifully and displays how a toxic and manipulative relationship functions.
