words passed

in supposed confidence,

only to be passed again.

an endless cycle

of perjury and pain,

betrayal and lies.

who is there to trust

when I turn away

and the cruel words

slip from their mouths

like poison

leaking into my wounds?

I am not free

from the blame of this crime.

anger fueling my words;

everything comes out,

a burning fire

that cannot be tamed.

but when the ashes are revealed

I wish I could turn back

and silence my speech.

regret becomes me,

a vile taste in my mouth.

I say I’ll be better

and stop it when it comes.

saying I’ll stop her

from falling into the same trap,

but I never can.

it continues on

an endless cycle

of perjury and pain

betrayal and lies

behind her back.
