Christmas, a day of cheer.

But my only wish,

Is to spend it with my dear.

December twenty-fifth,

The “happiest time of year.”

It’s been a while,

Sorry, I had to drive a few miles.

I brought you a gift,

Candy canes, I know they’re your favorite.

Decorations, you seemed a little dim,

Had to make you stand out in a place so grim.

A wreath and some tinsel,

Oh, how I miss my angel.

My love, can you hear me?

I’m still here to visit as promised.

I’m sorry, I’m getting teary.

I know, I’m not being honest.

I’ve been avoiding you.

The sight of your granite slab,

It just makes me so blue.

I just wish I didn’t have to bury you,

During the “happiest time of year.”

My name is Catherine, and my teacher told me to publish this. It's about losing someone during a happy time, and having to deal with your grief and also seeing everyone celebrate. Now having to associate this cheerful time with sadness.
