Silent World
It’s a cold and dark winter night and I am by my lonesome
But I do not feel cold nor lonely.
The sky is the deep gray of clouds, with white specks of snow dotting the welkin.
The world around me is quite
Almost as if it doesn’t exist.
It is asleep, and I am peaceful.
I look up at the street lamp lighting my way and thank it.
I stand there in the middle of the road covered in a skift of snow
Disturbed only by a trail of my footsteps
And wait.
What I am waiting for, I do not know.
Perhaps it was simply to pass the time before I eventually had to make my way home.
Maybe it was to revel in the silence and peacefulness a bit longer.
Conceivably I was engrossed in the beauty of my surroundings.
All I knew was that I wanted to stay in that moment forever.
To stay in the calmness and quiet.
To live this moment the rest of my life.
It was only me and the night.
I felt an overwhelming sense of tranquility.
I was at ease.
