I’m Finally Home
I did it
I’m finally home
I don’t know how, and I don’t know why
But I’m finally home
All the starvation
All the “do you think we're going to make it?”
All the getting things thrown at me and getting shot at
All the wishing things could just be normal again
But I’m finally home
It doesn’t feel real
A full day without getting screamed at?
A full day where I can eat three meals?
A day without worrying if I might make it tomorrow?
It's so different, to live normally, how I wished I could
I can sketch and paint again like I dreamed of
I can eat whatever I want whenever I want
I can get in bed with my goose down duvet
I can live freely without fear of losing everything
And I’m finally home

I wrote this piece for my English class, but I felt like I needed to share it, Our class recently finished reading the book Ashes in the Snow, and we were assigned to write poems from one of the characters perspectives, I chose the main character, Lina. She is such a strong girl and has been through so much, and I think this book could really be touching to a lot of people. I couldn't be more grateful for Ashes in the Snow because it just touched me in a way. I am so happy that I have to opportunity to share my work, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!
