Shoulders
Walking through a busy hall
A packed building full of souls
Yet somehow, I managed
To bump shoulders with you.
Your green eyes and hidden face
Held my gaze in a strong fist.
Something about the way
You looked at me so warmly.
Made me feel like maybe
Even I could fly.
We exchanged information,
And set up a date.
I met your cat,
She loved when I scratched her face.
We spent a year together.
We went to concerts,
Dinner dates, and Tea.
I had spent way too much money.
Next, I knew it had been two years.
Things got a bit rocky.
But you never gave up.
We never gave up.
Now, here we are.
It’s been nine years.
We have an apartment,
And our kids have paws.
Our dishware is matching,
And there are two sets of shoes.
All because of
my shoulder and yours
bumping against each other
Walking through a busy hall.
