Going to classes getting homework assigned

Hoping to finish by the deadline

Ranging from big projects to short worksheets

The stress has begun, work ‘till they’re complete

What happens if not? The whole grade will drop

Be sure that won’t happen, remain on top.

Something unfinished, unspoken, hidden

The project remains in the dark, the final product unwritten

“Where’s your homework? It was due today.”

The few words they hoped the teacher would not say.

The student melts away, their grade shifting from an A

Assuring themself they wouldn’t repeat the events of today

Yet another assignment, this time it must be submitted

The student works all night, fully committed

The impending deadline lurks, for it’s only the next day

The student walks into school, beaming like a ray
