i forgot to tell you: i ordered cherry ice cream and it reminded me of you

standing there with you,
one
last
summer
sunset
that sidewalk was eternal.
until it wasn't and
July lasted forever,
those five days lasted longer,
the world stayed golden-sweet
for as long as it could.
now june is long gone, july has joined it
and september will taste like
strawberry ice cream and heaven
if only I can make it through august
