Where am I really from?

I’m from 

Playing video games up past midnight

And jotting down ideas when I can’t sleep.

I’m from 

Colorful wallpaper, and

Singing Disney songs in front of the TV.

I’m from

Comforting my little brother when he has another fit

Or shopping with my mom.

I’m from staring at fish with my Dad 

And playing with his DJ equipment.

I’m from struggles, resilience, and comfort.

I’m from New York f*cking City, which occasionally visits New Jersey.

I’m from a loud and proud mom, and a wise and humble dad

Who both taught me

To take no sh*t from any man.

I’m from guidance counselor offices, poor eyesight, and picking at my nail polish when I’m bored. 

But if you really want to know, I’m just Chinese and Korean.
