Ay, es muy triste,
she thinks, but does not say aloud.
Instead, she says, "Man, that's rough," in English, her first language but not her favorite.
She blinks at the sun
and resists the impulse to call it sol, even in her mind. Someone
asks her a question and she responds "I think so," while
under her breath whispering Pienso que sí.
No one notices, anyway. It's alright, or está bien.
Someday, she tells herself. Someday.
