The Cure for Loneliness

I had the need to be popular,

The need to fit in.

I was constantly changing who I was,

With a burning desire to please everyone.

I wished for thousands of friends,

In order to never feel lonely.

Though after some time,

And many fake friendships,

The weight of being someone I was not,

Was heavy enough to break any scale.

I was lost and lonely,

That was until,

My sister blessed me with life-changing words.

She told me the value of friendships doesn’t come in numbers,

And instead of focusing on a certain amount of friends,

I need to focus on having a few friends that value true friendship.

I will never forget the day I received that advice,

For it is the day I found the true cure for loneliness.

I wrote this poem as a tribute to my sisters who have been a huge help to me.
