"Everything is more beautiful because we are doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again."

I remember gray pebbles sinking into bare feet as they carry me to open arms,

I remember throwing myself towards cold coffee, like a starving man given a feast,

I remember golden fur under my head, our breathing in sync as I dozed.

I remember the thumping and crackling of the car radio,

I remember city lights are burning stars as I reach for them through unbreakable glass,

I remember racing raindrops, fading hearts, goodbye thoughts, and stinging eyes.

I remember the drips of sweat down my back as I ran,

I remember the cold eyes that turned kind when they saw my smile,

I remember broken bones bound in belief but bandages and bubbles bursting.

I remember the ringing of bells and shuffling feet,

I remember pinkie-promises whispered in empty halls,

I remember the rush of flying and feeling the ground smack me for being foolish.

I remember Saturday cuddles and Criminal Minds,

I remember the echoes of laughter as we hid from one another,

I remember the quiet that came after midnight and wishing it was like this forever.

I wrote this for an assignment and really liked it. It made me think how I can remember so little yet so much from my childhood.
