Communion Wafers

It wasn't that I wasn't loved
as a child or something tragic
It's just I am a very greedy person
and love was always given like
communion bread -
always enough to remember
how starved and hollow I was
never enough to be full
communion bread was never meant
to be a meal and just once
I'd like to feel the love
rotting in my stomach
like poetry
