Are you a balloon?

Your face is a bright pink color.

I’ve seen you make children smile.

I find myself always wanting to hold on like you might float into the clouds if I let go.

Are you a balloon?

Because you twist and bend yourself into someone else.

You cling onto me as if someone charged you with static, you don’t let go.

Are you a balloon? I ask now three times.

Because I see you deflating.

You can still meet the stars mon amour, I just need to let you go.

The author's comments:

I have personally held onto things and people hoping that if I didn't let go things would work out. My poem here really should be telling us that it is okay to let go of the things in our lives that hurt us. I think it is important to live for yourself and recognize when we need to stop holding on to things that aren't changing for the better.
