You asked if I was okay and
little firefly thoughts flashed
behind my dead brown eyes
I wanted to package up
all the times I had been okay
and place them in front of you
I wanted to watch your hands
rip the wrapping paper away
I wanted to say
See? I told you I was whole
I wanted your eyes to dance
I wanted not to be broken
I wanted you to look at me and say
She is not a tragedy
But you said my eyes seem sad
even when I smile
