“You aren’t depressed just because people aren’t responding to your texts. You aren’t bipolar because a movie is making you happy and sad at the same time. You don’t have an anxiety disorder because you have stage fright.”

Most people can, to some capacity, see

They smile and blink lazily at the world

Some frown, too–

Remember the forgotten–

The thinnest skin on the human body is

Inextricably over the eyes

They may shut, but they never close–

We’re always watching

But do we see? Do we see

And if so, what?

Many focus their pinprick of gaze,

A spear of light,

Reflected distortions and perspectives

That compose the known–

Peel away the skin and the eyes

Let them soften

And embrace that which cannot be seen–

When I opened my eyes,

I felt much the same

They dare to manage a squint–

Free the lilting, technicolor visions

Breathe a drip of consciousness

There’s beauty in the blind
