A story has as many versions as it has readers - Winter Of Our Discontent

Getting help is hard

when your words get stuck between

the faded lines of truth

and confinement

When awkward silence

envelopes the noise

of onlookers

stopping their cars

before giving up

and moving on

My sanity gets punctured by

hateful comments with shallow breath

as I sink my face

into a pillow

Crowds of strangers brush past

pushing me against

a brick wall

of self-doubt and confusion

I clutch the warped vinyl

staring into colorless reflection

before throwing it off

the roof

of the building

Watching it gracefully fall

warping time

shattering into

a million pieces

Hoping that

by watching something so fragile

break under circumstance

I could decipher my own

warped vinyl

of a struggle

The author's comments:

This poem really challenged me to write in more of a story telling format and less direct. This poem has been something I've been wanting to put on TeenInk for awhile and finally, I finsihed editing it! I wanted to convey a message, but still keep it authentic and abstract to my own unique ways of writing poetry. This work was almost theraputic for me to write, and I write it as honestly as I could. Enjoy.
