Mine is my childhood nightmare 

Parents are supposed to wipe tears away

not be the one to cause them

Parents are supposed to be someone you can trust with your little secrets

not be scared when you see them

Parents are supposed to build you up

not break you down 

Parents are supposed to fix your heart after a breakup 

not be the one to break it in the first place

Parents are supposed to be someone to scare away the monsters under your bed

not be the monster 

but instead of being my monster under the bed

you are the monster in the room next to me

you look like my parents 

but you aren’t
