Waiting on hills dotted with green
            grass and stuffed animals
            hugged by eager kids
            on sandy marshes
            where little ducks paddle
            on Ferris wheels
            spinning, spinning, spinning
            carnival lights reflecting stars
            moonlight peeking onto
            the boat for which
            everyone is waiting
 
            Gazing up at color-streaked skies
            smoke trails blowing after
            up at fans of sparks
            fluttering down to the water
            up at bursts of light
            followed by explosions
            rippling through the
            gunpowder filled air
            snaps around the lake
            echo those high above
            thousands of eyes
            endlessly gazing
 
            Hoping
            of a chance to return
            to summers dear
            of times spent with friends
            screaming on roller coasters 
            of lakes splashing with canoes
            oars chopping sun blazed water
            of the rockets shooting up, up, up
            to ignite and paint the
            constellations with flashes
            of colors and noises and smells
            for another happy 4th of July
            always hoping
