She’s got shadows beneath her eyes

And I can’t help but wonder if she’s doing alright

But she smiles and says, “I’m doing just fine.”

”I was up too late doing work for our class

By the time I was done midnight had already passed

But don’t you worry cause I’ll be better next time.”

I saw saw her pulling on her sleeves on a warm summer day

She was looking kinda worse and I didn’t know what to say

Yet she smiled and said, “I’m doing just fine.”

”I got stuck in the rain and caught a nasty cold

I’ve been shivering something fierce and it’s getting kinda old

But don’t you worry cause I’ll feel better next time.”

She was walking down the hallways and looking kinda sad

I asked her what was wrong and hoped it wasn’t bad

But she just smiled and said, “I’m doing just fine.”

”Schools almost over and it’s time to head home

But I don’t want to go cause I’m scared to be alone

But don’t you worry and I’ll see you next time.”

Next I saw her she was shown on the news

They said, “What a tragedy, died from drug abuse.”

So I cried and said, “You were doing just fine.”

”I should’ve tried harder cause I saw you everyday

But I couldn’t even tell that your smiles were fake.”

And I can’t help but ask, “What happened to next time?”
