Loveliest of Song
Cloudy skies sing the loveliest of songs
Making music with tears all night long
Rolling hums come in on grey puffs of breath,
The kind that exhale at the moment of death.
So painful the screams, the way thunder rolls
That they picture the scenes, the departure of souls
Because when it strikes it leaves a mark
It scorches the earth with a powerful hark
The tangle of sky breaking upon earth
The flying of fists taking their course
Cloudy skies sing the loveliest of songs
Pain echoing the earth all night long
Somewhere so lovely, chilled, and dark
A halestorm makes its loveless remark
Banging its drums so forcefully it breaks
A little mountain with no more courage to take
Because mountains can be moved not only with love
But with a familial hate only from above
And when that tempest begins to roll in
Even the most brilliant of skies will begin to dim
Cloudy skies sing the loveliest of songs
They break and they burn all night long
They bring fear to the darkness
And they feed off of hate
Not of hate for their earth, but of what it will take
For a storm is a cycle and one that is easy to see
But so much harder to stop, and harder to flee
Because we flee from ourselves and the ripples we make
We flee from love, and a life impossible to take
And so the calmest of seas can be torn upon and apart
And the storms all above them cool the rarest of hearts
And so those oceans of sadness and mountains of fear
Grow into stinging clouds of hate, bitter and severe
For every home reduced to rubble, every damned tremble
Every ocean and land, and mountain that shall crumble
For every little broken thing, a victim since they were born
For every thing that is shattered, a victim of storm
The cloudy skies that have burned you, burned you with their tears
I beg of you to see, they have kept ahold of their fears
Every storm that has struck, was once a calm wave
Every ocean of thought, will be a storm someday
So do not hold back your pain, do not hold back the fear
But do not let it drown you, do not stray so near
To that tempest which has hurt you, the loveliest of song
The drumming of fists that scream all night long
For the moment you let pain become hate
The moment the ocean lets fear become it's fate
The moment you forget what you are
Strength and courage, reaching up ever so far
The strength of a mountain, resonant and strong
That stands testament to the truth of what is right, and what is wrong
The moment that calm waters lose faith in themselves
That giver of courage, a relief from their darkness, the chaos of hell
A calm from the storms that follow the weak
A soft little hand, to wipe the tears from their cheeks
The moment you forget that you have weathered the storm
That you have survived a darkness, and come out transformed
For fear is okay,
But hate has a way
Of poisoning the waters of the quietest bay
And so that moment you forget, the moment you give in
You’ve fallen victim not to a tempest, but to the greatest of sins
Of repeating the past, of drowning in fear
Do not forget what you are, do not forget to hear
Do not forget to remember, that loveliest of song
The one that storms sing in their pain, all night long
Because yes, cloudy skies sing the loveliest of songs
But they are songs of darkness, of pain and regret
They are songs of fear and sadness, and are not meant to be duets
They are too weak and weary, downtrodden from life
To hold onto their past, their loneliness and strife
And so they crash upon your shores
They weather away your peaks
They cry and they beg, they want nothing but your defeat
So do not let yourself grow so cold
Do not drown in another’s rain, do not let your waves go uncontrolled
For the waves become chaos, violence, and fear
And your pain will become another’s to bare
And the salt water will sting your eyes, take away your vision, make you go blind
And so you will never see what you’ve become
And if you ever do, you will be too far gone
I beg of you my dear,
hold onto what you are
But let go of your past,
let the grey skies fade until they are so very far
For I can hear the hums, they are still quiet now
But trust me when I say, even now they grow loud
Angry oceans sing the loveliest of songs
They forget who they are, they forget that once they were strong
They fancy their fear, they court their demise
They toy with their music, they write their reprise
And perhaps they forgot to listen, or perhaps it was the wrong song they heard
Perhaps the melody was enticing, or perhaps it was just too cold
Too cold was their heart, too cold was their mind
The scars were too much, the past weighed on their time
The skies and the storms, they never grew dim
Only was the light, that they took from within
And so the strongest of mountains, grew weak and afraid
And their storm never left, not the one that they made
And so the gentlest of oceans, grew bitter and fierce
And their cries of desperation, all night did they peirce
Time and time again, that saving voice goes unremembered
And they fall in love with hate, a call once tendered
And what once was a warning cry, a song of longing caution
Becomes another broken voice in the chorus of those forgotten
Broken souls sing the saddest of songs
Making music with fear, all life long...
