Superheroes
I know superheroes,
Ones without capes and masks and secret identities.
My hero wears
Overalls covered in paint and
A heart on her sleeve.
My hero wears grandpa sweaters
And doesn't know technology.
My hero takes her shoes off
To be comfortable writing and
Creates masterpieces.
My hero is full of self-doubt and stress.
My hero tries to save the world before
She saves
Herself.
My hero wears button ups with
Characters from a
Simpler time.
My hero sings.
My hero laughs at dumb jokes
That never made sense to
Me.
My hero is tall,
A huge nerd with a heart of
Gold.
My hero knows heartbreak and sadness,
But learns to love hard and free.
My hero is new, shiny,
Not knowing of the world.
My hero loves mermaids and
Believes in oblivious things
Like fairytales
And Love.
My hero is
Innocence.
My hero has music
Flowing
Through her veins.
My hero is small, but
Mighty.
My hero is awkward, but
Knows exactly who she wants to be.
My hero is not one person.
A hero is defined as someone good who saves others.
My heroes saved me.
Clouds ran over my head like
Villains taking over
Gotham.
I didn't know if that was the outside
Or me.
I felt myself melting away,
The good being
Replace by the inner villain.
My heroes ripped the evil away
Like a blanket,
Like a band-aid.
They taught me that
You don't have to always be
Happy
To still be
Good.
You don’t have to
Smile
To save someone.
They taught me
It's okay to want to save
Yourself first.
So, that’s what I did.
My heroes saved me, but more importantly,
They helped me
Save myself.
I know heroes.
My heroes don't wear capes or masks or secret identities.
They look just like you and me.

I wrote this piece about my group of friends in my creative writing class. They helped me realize how important my life is. They saved me.
