the final breath

dark... the tunnel is seemingly closing in

but then you see the light

faint, but existent at the end of the hallway

you glide forward, curtains flapping silently in the wind

you duck, thinking the veil will hit you,

but it passes over you as though you are nothing.

which I suppose, now, you are.

it’s dark, but you keep your eyes on the glow,

shivering, waiting to escape the realm of shadows you are imprisoned inside.

the silhouettes you see are like caged animals, silent, lurking.

you sputter to a slow, and when you regain speed you breathe a sigh of relief, for you are allowed to pass through.

you keep going, eyes closed as the snow falls upon your eyelashes

whispers hang in the dark branches,

calling your name for the last time.

then you’re gone

behind the veil,

vanish forever.
