My Rainbow

My mother’s laugh resonates in yellow.

My father’s caring heart contorts into pink and the orange as I dribble.

Athletics sing through the jerseys of red, white and blue,

soon to blaze in future colors of green, white and gold true.

I am from the blue, stark yellow, and trees of green; summer days spent on the lake,

from running through grey clouds of rain to catapulting onto the wave runners laughing away the days.

I tear pulling back from the black hearse of my grandfather,

from the heirloom silver bracelet of my grandmother.

I am from the the rainbows of happiness to the colors of darkness

from the brown crumbled dirt of my home.

I am from the prisms of personalities my family possesses,

ending with the passionate red of love.

I choose to live my life in color,

creating different shades as time continues on.
