A Broken Home
A blue ranch on a hill, the place I grew up,
chickens roaming near a red barn, tearing grass,
and dogs leaping through fields as high as a deer.
Quiet days and quiet nights,
the calm winds whistling and birds chirping,
four people living in a place, as small as a New York apartment.
A place with memories forgotten,
a broken home chipping away like the paint on an old car,
containing a lonely father, focused on keeping what could be lost.
I, a lost soul trapped between two homes, nowhere to go,
a mom that lost hope, no care for her children,
a sister causing trouble, worry, and sleepless nights.
Left unstable and empty, numb.
Cries of frustration and sadness, trapped within herself like a bird in a cage,
a broken girl in a broken home.
