I'm Done

I’m done with fake friends who only want to spend time with you
When it’s convenient for them.
They can make you laugh when you’re together,
But they leave you in the dirt when they lose interest.

I’m done with friends who do things you told them not to do.
You knew it would end badly.
They did it anyway without even thinking about your warnings,
And they blame you when it does go wrong.

I’m done with parents who feel like they need to know everything.
If you do make a mistake or screw up,
Nothing is the same as it had been because you messed up.
They distrust you from then on.

I’m done with high schoolers judging others on outward appearances and actions.
They see someone who’s different than them.
They immediately jump to conclusions about that person,
And those conclusions can be very wrong.

I’m done with high school putting so much pressure on students
That they feel like they must stay up late into the night
Just to finish one assignment that doesn’t make sense.
The stress is almost unbearable to most.

I’m done with trying to fit social standards that were created by others
For people to follow like a school of fish.
There is no way I could fit those standards,
And I shouldn’t have to.

I’m done with having to hide myself behind a mask that I don’t know.
Trying to fit in is ingrained in the social system of high school.
From a young age, most people are taught to stand out,
But high school forces the opposite.

I’m done trying to get everyone to like me all the time.
Everyone had different opinions about things in the world.
I drive myself crazy thinking that someone dislikes me.
There’s nothing I can do to stop that.

I’m done trying to please everyone through my words and actions
Because everyone’s a critic with their own taste.
I can’t make them like me for someone I’m not
When the most important thing is to be myself.

I’m done with all these things
Because nothing I do or say is going to be perfect.
And it’s okay to not be perfect
As long as I stay true to who I am.

I’m done with people.
I’m done with stress.
I’m done with judgment.
I’m done.
