Harmony
The snow falls; a whispered hush, a gentle blanket over the already sleeping city
Quiet excitement buzzes through the air like electricity, a promise of tomorrow
But for now, night envelops the neon lights in dark, peaceful silence
Night envelops her
She finds herself, for once, looking up instead of down, gazing upon the familiar yet foreign city stretched before her
The occasional hum of a passing car reminds her of the life that passes through the city, through the world
Two strangers, no connection, just the mutual experience of existence
She could swear they breathed at the same time, trading foggy breaths for a tapping finger on the steering wheel
Snowflakes replacing her eyelashes, a shiver of wind running through her body
Life, dulled
A mute placed in her horn of a heart
Let forte be another day
No crescendos until midnight
And when the sound of church bells wander to her ears,
She smiles.
She wishes a "Merry Christmas" to each footprint, and lets herself melt into winter
Forever a harmony
